La Dra. Marilia Villafañe Santiago es egresada de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Ponce. Posee un bachillerato en Administración de Empresas, concentración en Mercadeo. Esto le brindó la oportunidad de laboral en este campo por 14 años, siendo gerente y teniendo negocio propio. Culminó su maestría en Tecnología Educativa en Caribbean Universityde Ponce y su doctorado en Educación en Tecnología Instruccional y Educación a Distancia en Nova Southeastern University en Florida, USA. Además, posee estudios posgraduados, en el área de Perspectiva de Género, Educación y Gobierno, donde obtuvo un Diplomado en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Actualmente, está culminando la especialización en Liderazgo Educativo en Nova Southeastern University en Puerto Rico.

Desde el 2012, es Catedrática Auxiliar de la Facultad del Departamento de Educación de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Ponce. En el 2021, asume la dirección del Departamento de Educación y Educación Física. También, desde el 2019, coordina el Centro de Desarrollo de Educación Virtual de esta Institución. 

A su vez, en el campo de la consultoría educativa, ha ofrecido servicios a distintas instituciones en el área de diseño instruccional y educación virtual. Compartir sus conocimientos es una de sus grandes pasiones, por lo que, por los últimos quince años, disfruta hacerlo dictando talleres en el área de la tecnología educativa y su integración a la sala de clases presencial y virtual.

Dr. Marilia Villafañe Santiago graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. This provided her the opportunity to work in this field for 14 years, serving as a manager and owning her own business. She completed her master's degree in Educational Technology at Caribbean University in Ponce and her doctorate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, USA. Additionally, she has postgraduate studies in the area of Gender Perspective, Education, and Government, where she obtained a Diploma from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is currently finishing a specialization in Educational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University in Puerto Rico.

Since 2012, she has been an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of the Education Department at the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce. In 2021, she took over as the director of the Department of Education and Physical Education. Also, since 2019, she coordinates the Virtual Education Development Center of this Institution.

In the field of educational consulting, she has provided services to various institutions in the area of instructional design and virtual education. Sharing her knowledge is one of her great passions, which is why, for the last fifteen years, she enjoys doing so by conducting workshops in the area of educational technology and its integration into both in-person and virtual classrooms.
