Chuma Akana is an attorney interested in the intellectual property and privacy rights of Internet users and the Internet community. He advocates for Internet governance and was an ICANN78 Fellow and a member of the Intellectual Property Constituency and NARALO within ICANN. As a graduate student, Chuma focuses on data privacy, communication law, cybersecurity, national security, and emerging technologies. He has authored papers on harmful online content, data protection, digital retail lending, and the regulatory framework for financial technology and virtual currency. He is a TLS Fellow, completing his graduate studies (LLM) in Intellectual Property and Technology Law.

 

Chuma is a student member of the American Bar Association and a member of the International Bar Association. He is also the founder of the Innovation and Technology Lawyers Network (ITELAN), a network that connects lawyers with creatives and tech founders to bridge the gap between law and technology in Africa. Chuma earned his Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, specializing in Commercial and International Law.
